We strongly believe that traditional, project-based software development contracting suffers from a misaligned incentive structure.

Even before an agreement is signed, most interpret 'contracting' to be a temporary engagement with concrete deliverables. This works well for contractors that produce commodities - but software is not a commodity.

Software development contractors deliver results that behave less like commodities and more like the contractors themselves. Code reflects its creator: their knowledge, biases, and perceived constraints are baked in.

In a sense, the engagement between the business and the contractor lasts as long as the code does. And we've had the pleasure of working in a database that was implemented 42 years ago. If you share our belief that developers write better code when shown the bigger picture, it should make sense that this code was written by the business' founder.
